Close call

So today Lexi comes up to me and hands me the Flintstone vitamins and asks me to open them up. She didn't take her vitamins this morning so I went to open them to give her one. I smell her breath and it smells REALLY good and she has some white chalky kind of stuff in the corner of her mouth. I asked her what she was eating and she says, "My other medicine, you know...the yummy one." The other medicine they take is fluoride. They both LOVE IT!!!! Bracken will bring me the bottle shaking it and when he can't have more, he throws himself to the floor in a HUGE tantrum. The lid must not have got turned all the way and Lexi helped herself to "a lot" of pills. When I asked her how much a lot is, she shrugged and held up 5 fingers. I didn't know whether to believe that or not so I checked the pill bottle. Well the pills are teeny tiny and there are still quite a few in there. But I don't know exactly how much, so...I call poison control and talk to them about it. Apparently it is not dangerous until she takes 400 PILLS. Since I know it only started at 200 in the bottle and we use three a day (2 for Lexi and 1 for Bracken) and there are still some in there...I know I am safe. Relieved and safe! They told me to have her drink a half a cup of milk and that she may get a belly ache, but she would be okay.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Even medicine with childproof caps doesn't belong in the toothbrush drawer. Apparently they are not fool proof. The meidicine has since been moved to higher levels.

Wow, that is scary! Once Amy had to take her kids to the er and have their stomachs pumped because of the same thing. Kids are SO fast!

I am moving my medication right now...and thank goodness for floridated water!

All of my children have been able to open those child proof caps. They can open them easier than I can.

I have decided the only good place to have them is in the highest closet shelf in the house. Even then I have to watch Harrisen.

That is very scary. Things can happen so fast in just an instance. I'm glad she is ok and things weren't any worse!

one morning, when Ava was like...10 months old, she was crawling on the floor. I suddenly smelled bubble gum. The benedryl had fallen off of the dresser and she had OPENED it and thankfully poured in on the pillow and carpet and not in her mouth--no such thing as child proof!

Yeah, my kids have done that with the Flinstone's vites. I also called poison control and they said that they'd have to eat the whole bottle for it to be a problem. It's always a scare no matter what!

That's scary but you want to know what is kinda funny, Tyker loved his fluoride tablets as well! He always wanted them and I finnaly had to hide them so that he would forget about them. There must be something in those things that really taste good to them.

Oh, I am so glad you put it on a higher shelve. I did that once with the flinston kid pills. I just could help myself, they are just so good. My pee was light green for a couple of days though.
